Jhāna 2011

Jhāna - Buddhist understanding of a meditative state(s) marked by profound stillness and concentration in which the mind becomes fully immersed and absorbed in the chosen object of attention.

Created from a single photograph, the video piece considers the patience and difficulty that ensues in attempting to enter such a meditative state. It is said that much time, preparation and diligent practice is needed to achieve full concentration and absorption. So, at its most stable and height of clarity, the meditative process depicted remains restless and at times scattered. For brief moments, levels of focus and stability are attained.
